Kerry and Steve

“We had looked at several venues before we chose East Lodge. None of them seemed right for us so after a couple of recommendations from a family member and good friend we decided to book an appointment to view East Lodge. From the moment we drove up to the hotel, saw it and the beautiful surroundings we knew instantly it was the place for us.  Iain the Managing Director was so friendly and welcoming on the day and our dealings with Emma and Charlotte who arranged the finer details of the wedding were first class.  We were made to feel very special from the moment we first walked into East Lodge, up to and including our wedding day, nothing was too much trouble.”

The planning and hard work in the year leading up to the wedding paid off, Kerry and Steve had their dream day at the multi award-winning East Lodge in Rowsley, The Peak District..

“Once we had made our choices, especially regarding the venue, and me about the dress, we were confident that we made all the right decisions and we are still more than happy with our choices.”

“It was an absolutely perfect, fairytale wedding at East Lodge.” Kerry concluded.

Mike and Lizi

Both working at the same Sheffield car dealership, Mike Dawes would pass Lizi Sleath every morning knowing she was the woman for him, but it wasn’t until the Chesterfield couple were sent on a training course in the Lake District together that they had the chance to get their romance motoring.

“It was in April 2007 that Mike and I were put forward for a Management and Leadership course in Bowness, Windermere.” Lizi recalled. “The daytime was filled with typical outdoor team building activities but in the evenings we would have chance to chat and Mike and I got on like a house on fire. By November I’d moved from Sheffield into Mike’s house at Chesterfield and by the end of the year we were engaged.”

A complete surprise to Lizi, Mike’s strange behavior leading up to Christmas 2007 was explained with a romantic proposal. “On Christmas morning we sat under the Christmas tree next to the large open fire in our pyjamas” Lizi explains “Mike had given me a large box and inside was a smaller box just perfect to fit a ring inside. Before I had chance to open it Mike took my hand and said “before you open that box I want you to know, you are the woman for me, I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you… Will you be my wife?”.”

With lots of planning to do, the couple decided to marry two and a half years later giving them the time to find the perfect venue and arrange every last detail of their big day.

Lizi said: “The planning was a great experience. I spent many weekends with my mum making wedding favors, writing poems, trying on my dress over and over again and trawling the wedding shows for exciting and unique ideas. It was a wonderful build up to a wonderful day.”

As the couple had first found romance in The Lake District, this was the natural choice to get married.

“We searched the internet for the perfect venue and thought we would probably end up getting married in the Lakes. However we kept coming across East Lodge Country House on the internet.” Lizi explained, “and despite not being in The Lakes, there was something about it.
”One Sunday night we decided to drive there, believing we would be able to rule it out and focus on The Lakes wedding plan, without distractions. The beautiful driveway, picturesque gardens and stunning building looked too good to be true. We secretly crept around the grounds admiring the beautiful setting and dreaming about the perfect wedding!“

We then spent a weekend in May 2008 in Windermere, thinking we would find the ideal venue there, where our love had originally blossomed. But with a string of venues offering bad customer service, frozen sausage rolls or bedrooms with wallpaper peeling from the walls we gave up on this idea and went back to our first choice of East Lodge. We soon fell in love with what proved to be our perfect venue.”

The planning and hard work leading up to the wedding paid off, as on 28th May Lizi and Mike had their dream day at the multi award-winning East Lodge in Rowsley, The Peak District.

Lizi’s beautiful champagne gown was from the first shop she visited. “It was the third dress I tried on and knew it was the one for me.” Lizi said. “Priced out of my budget, I kept on hunting for something of equal beauty but to no avail. There was nothing that could match the stunning dress I’d seen. I knew what I wanted so went back several months later to buy my perfect dress.”

Bridesmaids were Lizi’s two best friends, Elizabeth Roberts and Suzanne Oakey. “They were an amazing support and certainly gave me a hen weekend to remember.” Lizi continued “We chose pearlescent mushroom dresses, to keep with the champagne, gold and brown scheme and as Suzanne lives in London, her dress was still being altered hours before the wedding!”

Mike looked smart in a co-ordinating brown three piece suit, as did his two sons Ashley and James Dawes and best man and long standing friend Jamie Woodhouse.

“The actual day was perfect and ran like clockwork thanks to the great organisation and attention to detail.” Lizi fondly remembered. “Mike was very nervous in the run up to the ceremony and was pacing up and down, no one could reassure him until I was walking down the aisle towards him. We held hands from the beginning to the end and even managed a few cheeky kisses throughout.“
As you’d expect from East Lodge, the wedding breakfast was wonderful and the speeches brought tears to guests’ eyes and also had them in stitches with laughter, especially when Mike brought out the ‘non-conventional’ vows we had written one night when slightly inebriated! It really was the best day of our lives.”

“Everyone at East Lodge was great, it couldn’t have been better.”

The perfect day was followed by the perfect honeymoon for the new Mr and Mrs Dawes who jetted off to The Maldives. As with the dress and the venue, the Maldives was the couple’s original choice of destination. Lizi explained: “We were looking for the holiday of a lifetime and the choices were vast, we looked at America, Thailand, Greece, Cyprus, Driving Holidays, Adventure Holidays, Bahamas, Mexico. The list is endless. In the end we even applied to go on a television programme where a honeymoon could be won! We were close to accepting their offer of taking part, but decided having someone vote on your wedding wasn’t the best idea! In the end we went back to our original plan of the Maldives, which was amazing… Two weeks of sheer heaven!”

“If we were giving advice to anyone planning a wedding we would have to tell them to take their time.” Lizi concluded “it means you can put your mark on everything. I would also say, go with your first instinct… We knew what we wanted, East Lodge, the dress and the honeymoon yet spent hours looking for alternatives just in case there was something better… But there wasn’t.”

Alison and David

It was after careful consideration and visits to several venues that Alison and David chose one of the country’s finest venues, East Lodge, to hold their wedding.

“We’d looked at a few different venues but there always seemed to be some small niggling issue at each that we weren’t happy with - be it the decoration, service or surroundings,“ explained Alison. After calling in at East Lodge to pick up a brochure, Alison and David both said they felt at home and were impressed with the warm greeting and attentive service they received. Returning shortly after for a second visit, the couple booked East Lodge for their special day and knew they had made the right choice.  “From the moment we first arrived at East Lodge we were made to feel at home with fresh coffee and homemade biscuits. The staff were so friendly yet professional and answered any queries we had, guiding us through the process and making sure everything ran perfectly on our special day. I enjoyed planning the wedding and researching everything. By being organised and having confidence that we’d chosen the right venue and suppliers, we were able to enjoy the build-up and excitement. The only stress I had was caused by myself worrying about the things I couldn’t control!”

For their winter wedding, Alison and David chose an ivory, black and pale pink theme, carried throughout from the invitations to the table dressings with some added sparkle details.

The couple’s guests were served champagne and treated to entertainment from a string trio and psychological magician, before enjoying an award winning East Lodge wedding breakfast that Alison describes as “simply sublime.” Guests are still commenting to the couple on the “exquisite cuisine” from their wedding.

David and best man Andrew gave entertaining speeches with Alison choosing to break tradition and give an emotional speech of her own before being joined by further guests in the evening for more splendid food, dancing and a spectacular surprise firework display, fitting for their 5 November wedding and arranged by staff at East Lodge.

“As you’d expect from East Lodge, the service and food we received was without exception the best we could have dreamed of,” said Alison. “The magic, sparkle and romance of the day, as well as the fabulous setting were all captured by our photographer James Stewart. Being so close to Chatsworth, where David proposed, we had some pictures taken there too. I put on my pink wedding wellies and it only seemed right that our dog Ben joined us there; he’d been there every step of our journey.”

“For us, our wedding day was just perfect and we wouldn’t do anything at all differently,” Alison reminisced. “If I was to give advice to anyone planning their wedding, it would be to choose your venue and your suppliers carefully. Select those with a reputation for good service, like East Lodge and don’t over plan; it’s amazing how with the right people, everything just falls into place.”

Katherine and Stuart

Civil servants Katherine Holmes and Stuart Lynch first started working together back in 2003 and the couple soon formed a relationship that quickly blossomed both in and out of the office. Now, still working just four desks apart, the new Mr and Mrs Lynch are living in Greenhill, Sheffield following their dream ‘English country garden’ themed wedding at Rowsley’s multi-award winning East Lodge.

Stuart had planned the romantic proposal in advance, booking Katherine’s favourite hotel in Norfolk and choosing to pop the question on her favourite beach. Planning their wedding for the following year and having a vague idea of what they wanted, it took just one visit to one venue for Katherine and Stuart to find their dream wedding reception setting. Already decided on a church ceremony, at St. Thomas’ in Brampton, Chesterfield, the couple soon knew they wanted to hold their reception at one of country’s finest venues, East Lodge in nearby Rowsley.

“East Lodge was the first and only place we visited,” Katherine explained. “We fell in love with it straight away, the gardens and setting were perfect and we’d been previously for Sunday lunch so knew how great the food was. As ‘foodies’ this was important to us. I wanted an English country garden setting so East Lodge was the perfect choice – and we would have the whole venue and grounds exclusively. The staff were all so attentive too and there were lots of little extra touches, like home-made biscuits that always made us feel very welcome. We didn’t even need to look elsewhere.”

Katherine and Stuart married on 9 July and the glorious weather allowed the couple and their guests to make full use of the fabulous grounds and gardens at East Lodge.

Wearing a Grace Kelly style David Fielden gown, Katherine looked stunning, with her sister Jenny and god-daughter, four year old Daisy as bridesmaids. Jenny chose her dress from Harvey Nichols and Daisy’s from Monsoon.

“I don’t like being late for anything,” Katherine said. “And I don’t like being untidy, so I was ready in plenty of time and ended up stacking the dishwasher in my wedding dress before I left the house! Then on the way to the church I was suddenly really thirsty so my Dad and I made the driver stop at the nearest pub and we had a shandy – luckily I managed to keep my dress spotless for when I arrived at church!”

”Everything went really well and all to plan,” Katherine continued. “The staff at East Lodge made everything run seamlessly and the day was perfect. Even the East Lodge chickens wanted to get involved. A couple of them had escaped and were in the gardens. My sister took to a shine to one, naming him Neville so he’s featured on a few of our photographs!”

Photographs were taken by Mike and Wendy Leng, based at Wentworth with East Lodge providing an idyllic backdrop, along with nearby Chatsworth where the bride and groom stopped off en-route for a few pictures.

“It was just a perfect day and it was captured beautifully in our photographs,” Katherine added. “Mike and Wendy were really great and many of our party thought they were our friends and fellow guests as they mingled in so well and stayed so late capturing the whole day for us. We can’t thank everyone enough for making it so special,” she concluded.

With East Lodge ‘Exclusively Theirs’ for Katherine and Stuart’s wedding party, many of the guests were able to stay the night and enjoy breakfast the next morning with the new Mr & Mrs Lynch, before they jetted off to Dubai and Mauritius to relax and unwind and start their married life together.
